Bunshodo Co., Ltd.

Bunshodo Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Bunshodo”) and H2L, Inc. (hereinafter ‘H2L’) have jointly developed a new model of the remote hologram device “HoloD” and will begin accepting orders on August 9, 2022.

Background

Addressing New Communication Challenges in Remote Work

In recent years, as remote work has rapidly become widespread, new communication challenges have emerged, and there have been cases where workers have reported physical and mental health issues.
For example, new hires and mid-career employees are facing issues such as a diminished sense of belonging to the company due to fewer opportunities to learn from supervisors and senior colleagues or to engage in casual face-to-face conversations. This makes it difficult for them to grasp subtle nuances, the big picture of their work, and the corporate culture, leading to feelings of isolation that can ultimately become an underlying cause of turnover.

Implementation

It is difficult to say that the web conferencing and chat tools used for remote work fully compensate for the face-to-face communication that previously took place, and these issues have begun to arise.
Therefore, Bunshodo and H2L are leveraging the hologram device “HoloD” to provide a new form of remote communication that addresses the challenges of remote work.

What is HoloD?

HoloD is a system that projects remote workers as life-size, transparent holograms to connect people across distances. By projecting people in real size, it conveys the atmosphere and nuances of face-to-face conversations, allowing you to experience a new level of remote communication.
The new product features a compact design that fits into a dedicated carrying case, making it easy to connect even for those who are not familiar with setting up web conferences.

Connect without worrying about your appearance using avatars

In HoloD, you can choose whether to project your webcam feed or your own avatar. The avatar is modeled after your face and replicates the head and mouth movements of remote workers. By using an avatar, you can connect with others without worrying about your appearance.
In the future, we aim to apply H2L’s BodySharing® technology to enable the avatar to replicate your body movements.
