Capsule Interface

Capsule Interface

An interface for fully experiencing and sharing movement and force.

About

A fully immersive experience! Pioneering beyond sight and sound.
An interface for fully experiencing and sharing movement and force.

The Capsule Interface is an experience-sharing device that can directly transmit “internal bodily” information—such as body movements and the degree of force applied—to other bodies, such as robots or avatars.
The Capsule Interface, which consists of a set of muscle deformation sensors, speakers, and a display, is installed on various chairs or beds for use. By sitting or lying down and moving their limbs slightly, users transmit their movements and force levels to another body. At the same time, audiovisual information is exchanged between the two bodies.

Unlike conventional robot or avatar interfaces, no wearable devices, special controls, or training are required. Users can connect with a remote body while remaining in a comfortable seated or lying position.

The experience of having bodily information “delivered” directly will transform the nature of communication, work, education, and entertainment.

In the future, we plan to research and develop technology to provide proprioceptive feedback to users within the Capsule Interface, and further applications are expected in fields such as education, entertainment, and healthcare.

Solution

Expanding “Shared Bodily Experiences” Across Diverse Contexts

No need to travel for business trips
Even if a business trip comes up suddenly, no problem! Connect to a robot at your destination via the Capsule Interface installed at your home or nearby workplace.
Your colleagues or business partners might be surprised, but why not go on a business trip using a humanoid robot?

Carrying packages at heights or up stairs
Delivery personnel can perform transport tasks using remote-controlled robots without having to move their own bodies. This helps reduce physical strain.

Remote Operations in Disaster Sites and Hazardous Areas
Work from a safe location, even in environments that are difficult for people to enter, such as debris removal and landmine clearance.

Interaction and self-expression through avatars
Use avatars for communication and performance in virtual spaces.

Household Support
Remote assistance with household chores such as cooking and cleaning via Capsule Interface and robots.
Reduces the burden on seniors and dual-income households, supporting daily life.

Agricultural Support
Operate agricultural robots remotely via Capsule Interface.
Real-time sharing of skilled techniques such as cultivation and harvesting helps address labor shortages and reduce workload.

Feature

Immersive Remote Experience Sharing

In addition to visual and auditory cues, force feedback is integrated in real time using muscle deformation sensors.

Minimally invasive interface

Uses an optical measurement method that is less susceptible to electrical noise and sweat than electrode-based electromyography.

Non-worn design

There is no need to wear multiple wearable devices, and it can be used while maintaining natural postures such as sitting or lying down.
